About

Julia Handschuh is an artist and organizer who makes objects, site specific installations and performance. She grew up studying improvisational movement and went on to be confused and intrigued by the world of conceptual art. She draws dismantling buildings, lives in a cabin off the grid, plays in porcelain and paper and travels by bike and hitch. She's trying to learn to articulate how each of these things are improvisational and site-specific in their own right.

She homeschooled for a time, then attended a community college, and was award a great scholarship which allowed her to afford the Museum School and Tufts University. The same foundation that gave her the first scholarship is now funding her to attend the Peforformance Studies Program at NYU.

Julia is creator of Valley Art Share, and former Co -Director of Commonwealth Center for Change. She also works as a freelance designer, art organizer, consultant, web marketer, grant writer, hair cutter & cook .
