Corn for Kelzer
Kelser family farm, Minnesota
July 2007

During a cross-country trip in the summer of 2007 Andrew I visited his grandparents farm, seated in the rolling hills of Minnesota just south of Minneapolis.

Due to the onslaught of urban sprawl & the rising cost of property taxes the Kelzers have been forced to slowly sell off parts of their farm. Where there once were golden striped fields of corn and alfalfa, ponds and pastures for the cows to roam, now lie neatly pre-packaged homes lining newly paved streets.

I walked this network of asphalt each day; leaving a trail of cornels, cobs and husks to find my way back to the farm.

Steve Kelzer joined me for one of these walks; a small silent protest of the houses that will eventually consume the farmhouse and fields.
