Pour Le Lieu
Le Lieu Centre en Art Actuel

April 9th , 2005

It is at once about me more than anyone else as it is about everyone else more than about me.   The sounds and actions of others begin to the dominate the space and influence my actions, where I look, who I gaze at, and yet I still have complete control, autonomy and choice in where, when and how to look.   To manipulate.   To be.   To force the space into silence and waiting, a relative silence.   All in relation to one another, and then to a particular, an intense exchange with one man.   And within the exchange there are layers, of knowing, or realization, or witnessing, looking, watching, breathing.   We don't know who is in control.   I am giving over to the inclination of my arms to slightly rise, I am waiting and watching to see what he will do.

He does nothing.

At times his intense stare seems full, filling to beyond capacity, an all knowing all seeing gaze that permeates the room, we look into and beyond each other charging the space between, we each wait for the other to act.   I then realize I am being watched as well, and as this process was always apparent and part of the piece, I suddenly realized I had forgotten it, for a moment, I do not know how long; we, as I imagined, or truly, I, was enraptured, caught in an in-between state, locked in the gaze and going nowhere; then a release, fingers loosen and arms drop to the floor.
